SPORTS WEEK
Second years pulled through as the 2016 Sports Week champions, ruthlessly defeating the first years in all sporting events.  Better luck next year, first years. A special thanks to Maverick and Kyra for putting together such a fun week!

MENTAL HEALTH IN MEDICINE
Our annual Mental Health In Medicine Night was a huge success this year. Physicians and students took the stage to speak of the importance of mental health, and it was a very moving and eye opening evening.  A huge thank you to the brave students who shared their personal experiences, and to Brad and Vicky for organizing a great night.

In the coming week we will be releasing the designs and taking order for the 2016 FMSS jumpers!  We have an array of options to choose from this year, from long sleeve tees to jumpers and trackies. UPCOMING EVENTS

WOMEN IN MEDICINE: EQUITY, GENDER, CAREER, LIFE

Hello you! Yes, you - women, men, and everyone in between! Come along on Wednesday, May 11th at 1pm in LT2 to the first WiM seminar run by FMSS. We're pressing the reboot button to bring back everything you loved last year and even more! Come have a chat with Riana, 2015 FUSA Women's Officer, and our very own Stephen McManis about gender and medicine, how it affects your career and life.

Afternoon tea will be provided as we enjoy a warm and educated discussion about what *true* feminism really is. Have a question you want answered? Email it to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.!

MENTAL HEALTH IN MEDICINE
National Mental Health Surveys illustrate an astounding fact. Those studying and practicing medicine are at a much higher risk of mental health related problems than in any other line of work. Beyond Blue Chairman The Hon. Jeff Kennett AC deems these findings should act as an immediate rallying call for action.

Everyone fights their own battles, whether it be exam stress, motivation or family feuds. FMSS has organised the Mental Health in Medicine Seminar to share ways of coping and overcoming challenges that we ourselves or close friends can face throughout our degree. This hugely informative and eye-opening night has talks from people with various experiences surrounding mental health and wellbeing. This includes some of our very own students braving the stage and sharing their stories to help others.

Date: Tuesday the 17th May 6.00pm
Location: HSLT 1.01

Click the link here to sign up.

SPORTS WEEK
If there is one thing medical students are known for, it is certainly not their athletic abilities.  But that will not stop the first and second years from going head to head in games of football, netball, volleyball, soccer and basketball during our annual sports week. This showdown will be one for the ages, with the ultimate prize going to the winners: eternal glory. Come out to see some of the most un-athletic people you know leave it all on the field (or court) and cheer on your fellow students!

Netball: Thursday, May 19th at 5:00 at Flinders gym
Football: Friday, May 20th at 4:30 at Flinders Oval
Volleyball: Monday, May 23rd at 4:00 at Flinders gym
Soccer: Wednesday, May 25th at 12:00 at Flinders Oval
Basketball: Friday, May 27th at 5:30 at Flinders Gym

A phenomenal turnout for this the World's Greatest Shave this year! A heartfelt thank you from FMSS to everyone who donated their time, money, dignity (tanners/waxers) and to those who came along to support the brave shavers. We raised over six and half thousand dollars for the Leukaemia Foundation by the Friday of the shave! It is so great to see how generous students can be!

Also, FMSS has been contacted to have some of these brave legends to be on the posters for next year, so look out for that!

AMSA INTERNSHIP CRISIS SURVEY

Recently, there's been much discussion and talk about the internship crisis. FMSS and AMSS are working very hard to send the right messages across. As part of this, we’d like to ask you to fill out a survey to help better inform our #internshipsinSAnity campaign in 2016. By doing so, you also go in the draw to win one of four $50 cash prizes.

We are aiming to establish more accurate data on placement of students, preferences for internship location, and so on. This data is crucial to our advocacy, and filling in this survey will help us immensely in our campaign.

Please click HERE to fill in the survey. Your help is much appreciated!
