The Flinders Medical Students Society was established in 1979 and is a non-profit student run organisation. FMSS is proud to boast a membership of over 95% of Flinders medical students, with more than 350 Members. FMSS endeavors to engage in activities fundamental to success at medical school and beyond. In doing so, the FMSS hopes to provide a supportive environment suited to nurturing the doctors of tomorrow. Flinders Medical Students Society has a few fundamental objectives. FMSS aims to promote the interests of medical students at Flinders University by:
- Providing a supportive environment for medical students during their medical training
- Promoting the positive interaction of medical students with members & organisations in the health care field
- Participating in the general community
- Representing the views of Flinders Medical students to other major bodies like the Australian Medical Association, Australian Medical Students Association
The success of FMSS is dependant on the many medical students and staff who volunteer their time and skills, and also the generosity of the sponsors. The Flinders postgraduate medical course not only incorporates students from a broad range of age groups and backgrounds, but also offers a third of their current places to overseas students. FMSS therefore provides for the diverse backgrounds of their student membership catering to the needs of the students .FMSS has the vision to build a strong society that fulfills all of its aims and provides support and a voice to the students. FMSS endeavors to provide the building blocks for successful future careers for the doctors of tomorrow.
