Flinders Medical Students' Society

About Us

The Flinders Medical Students’ Society was established in 1979 and is a non-profit student-run organisation. FMSS has a membership base of almost 600 medical students, comprising more than 95% of the medical student cohort at Flinders. Our members come from a wide range of age groups and professional and academic backgrounds, and this diversity is represented in the activities of our society. FMSS provides a range of academic, social and community-based activities aimed at ensuring student success during medical school and beyond.

As the peak organisation representing medical students at Flinders, FMSS is the main advocacy group for issues affecting students such as curriculum and teaching, internship places, and student wellbeing.

The fundamental mission of FMSS is to support medical students in their academic endeavours whilst at Flinders. We do this by:

  • Providing a supportive environment for medical students during their medical training
  • Promoting the positive interaction of medical students with individuals & organisations in the health system
  • Engaging with the general community
  • Representing the views of Flinders Medical students to other peak organisations such as the Australian Medical Association, the Australian Medical Students’ Association and the SA Institute of Medical Education and Training

The success of FMSS depends on the many medical students and staff who volunteer their time and skills, and also the generosity of our sponsors.
